Kevin Harvick Gives WIX® Filters Third Consecutive Cup Win At Talladega

Gastonia, NC — April 26 , 2010 Kevin Harvick made a last second pass around Jamie McMurray on the final lap to win the Aaron’s 499 Sunday afternoon at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

Cars equipped with WIX Filters, a member of the Affinia Group family of brands, have now racked up FIVE NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins in 2010 including THREE CONSECUTIVE at Phoenix (Avondale, Ariz.) International Raceway, Texas Motor Speedway and Talladega in addition to winning the Budweiser Shootout and Gatorade Duel special event races.

Harvick dove past McMurray at the exit of the tri-oval and beat his rival to the finish line by a fender – officially measured at just .011 second.

“We knew we needed to be the second car pushing coming to the start-finish line because you can make that one swipe pass there coming to the finish line,” Harvick said. “It was just a matter of timing. Our day worked out really well for us. We planned on riding around in the back to miss the wrecks and racing with about 50 to go. All of that worked out and we were able to work our way there and have the move that we planned on trying to be in position to make at the end of the race.

“I think the package NASCAR brought [to Talladega] worked out great. It is very forgiving. You can let out of the gas. You just don’t want to be the very last car in the pack. While you are in the middle of the pack, you can do what you need to do and push and shove. It is more fun when they let us race the way we want to race.”

Harvick ended a victory drought of 115 races, dating back to his Daytona 500 win in 2007. He won for the first time in 19 races at Talladega and claimed his 12th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory in 331 races.

The Aaron’s 499 set a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series record for lead changes (88) and different leaders (29). The win was the first for car owner Richard Childress since Jeff Burton won at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway in October 2008.

“This is about as sweet as it gets,” Childress said. “This is as good a race as you can see at Talladega. I think it broke a record for lead changes, and the spoiler and everything on the cars worked great.

“This is a great win for Kevin and myself. You know, we’ve had good cars. We’ve been right there, had a good shot at California and we got the cars running good. I really feel good about everything the 29 team has got going right now. We want to win that championship.”

Harvick gained two position in the series championship standings, moving up to second-place, 26 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson. He averaged 150.590 mph in a race that took 3 hours, 31 minutes and 58 seconds to complete. The race was slowed by eight cautions for 32 laps.
